Pay Rate: $26.05 to $32.97 per hour
Employment Status: Casual on Call
Monthly/weekly hours: No guarantee of hours - Days, Evenings and Weekend Shifts

Reporting to the Nutrition Services Supervisor, prepares and cooks meals for patients, customers and staff; maintains high standards of safety and food sanitation and in the absence of the Dietitian and Supervisor, Nutrition Services assumes limited supervisory duties and performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and skills required for this position are as follows:
  • Knowledge of Food Safe practices
  • Good verbal/written comprehension of the English language
  • Knowledge of and ability to use commercial kitchen appliances and equipment
  • Knowledge of institutional cooking, practices and procedures
    Knowledge of basic nutrition and therapeutic diets
  • Knowledge of menu planning and recipe creation
  • Knowledge and understanding of safe food handling practices
  • Knowledge of basic sanitation/safety
  • Ability to plan and set priorities (meet deadlines)
  • Ability to communicate orally
  • Ability to follow written and oral directions
  • Ability to lift bulky objects up to approximately 22kg.

  • Initiative and good judgment The successful applicant is required to be Red Seal Journeyman Food Safe Level 1 certification and 2 to 4 years of experience in institutional cooking, preferably in a hospital setting. An equivalent combination of training, education, and/or experience may be considered. Food Safe Level and experience with therapeutic diets would be considered an asset for this position
