Monthly/weekly hours: 75 hours bi-weekly
Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, the incumbent, as part of the Pharmacy team, performs complex duties such as
manufacturing various sterile products, intravenous solutions, and chemotherapy; performs order entry duties;
measures, manufactures, compounds, packages; organizes and distributes medications; assists with the purchasing and
receiving; and performs other related duties.
The position makes decisions with regard to: quantity of items packaged/compounded; quantities of medication required
including compounded parenteral products; determines quantities of supplies stocked in dispensary inventory in
consultation with the Pharmacy Manager and performs purchasing/receiving duties as required.
Knowledge and skills required for this position are as follows:
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods for various sterile products, intravenous solutions, and chemotherapy
drugs and the ability to measure, manufacture, compound, package, and distribute medications;
- Analytical skills;
- Good communication skills, both oral and written;
- Ability to deal with others effectively;
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position;
- Basic computer skills, including typing;
- Ability to operate related equipment;
- Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary work team
The successful applicant will have Grade 12 and graduation from a recognized Pharmacy Technician course which includes a hospital pharmacy practicum.
The following would be considered assets for this position: One (1) to two (2) years of hospital pharmacy experience; certification with the Pharmacy Examination Board of Canada; registration with a Canadian College of Pharmacy; Meditech experience and six (6) to twelve (12) months experience preparing chemotherapy.
