Employment Status: Regular Full Time
Monthly/weekly hours: 75 hours bi-weekly

Reporting to the Director, Patient Services, the Cancer Care Navigator (CCN) is responsible for providing support and guidance to clients diagnosed with cancer. The CCN assists clients and their families navigate the healthcare system and access services and resources. The CCN provides a single access point for coordination and integration of services for the client.



The following are knowledge and skills required for this position:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of cancer care, including both clinical and supportive care;
  • Knowledge of both local community and territorial/provincial cancer services and healthcare systems;
  • Knowledge and demonstrated application of adult learning principles and practices;
  • Knowledge of office administration practices and procedures;
  • Excellent organizational, assessment, analytical and critical thinking skills;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of groups and individuals;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated creativity, resourcefulness and innovation;
  • Demonstrated computer literacy including working knowledge of Microsoft office applications i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook;
  • Excellent oral and written communication, facilitation and presentation skills;
  • Cross cultural awareness;
  • Awareness and sensitivity to religious beliefs as they relate to health issues;
  • Ability to develop, implement and evaluate the navigation process.

The successful applicant will have a degree, diploma or certificate (minimum 2 years) in a healthcare profession, current registration with a related health professional association or eligibility for registration, and 3 years experience working with clients and families experiencing cancer.  An equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be considered.  A valid class 5 driver’s license is required for this position.  Desirable for this position but not essential would be certification or formal training in oncology, experience as an adult educator/instructor and experience with Meditech.
