Monthly/weekly hours: 75 hours bi-weekly

Under the direction of the Manager, Nutrition and Food Services, the Supervisor is responsible for supervising, directing and controlling the delivery of meal services within the Nutrition & Food Services Department. Supports nutrition care and food service for inpatients and other areas within the facility; orders and receives food and supplies as required; completes human resource activities such as scheduling, payroll, performance & attendance management; monitors Quality Assurance and Risk Management initiatives. Maintains proper departmental standards of nutrition care, menu processing, sanitation, safety, food production and service; performs other related duties.

The following are knowledge and skills required for this position:
  • Knowledge of administration practices and procedures as they apply to the management of institutional nutrition and food service
  • Knowledge of the science of nutrition as it applies to general and therapeutic nutrition
  • Thorough knowledge of various therapeutic diets, dietary requirements and diet textures
  • Knowledge of the English language; written, verbal and comprehension
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet
  • Proven supervisory, leadership and coaching skills
  • Analytical and clinical skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills

The successful applicant will have a 2 year Diploma from a recognized institution in Food and Nutrition Management or a university degree in nutrition or dietetics. Membership or eligibility for membership with Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM) is also a requirement for this position. Applicants with an equivalent combination of training, education and/or experience may be given consideration.
