Employment Status: Regular Full Time
Monthly/weekly hours: 75 Hours Biweekly

Reporting to the Manager, Admissions and Discharges (A&D) and Health Records, the Health Record Transcriptionist transcribes medical staff dictation in an expedient and timely manner; ensures completeness and accuracy of health record documentation; provides support to the Health Records department and performs other related duties as required.

 

Knowledge and skills required for this position are as follows:

  • Excellent knowledge of medical terminology with the ability to accurately spell medical terms
  • Knowledge of MS Office products Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent knowledge of office practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of Acts, Ordinances and Regulations
  • Keyboarding skills of 70 words per minute
  • Excellent verbal and written skills including English usage, grammar, punctuation, style and editing
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use office equipment
  • Ability to understand diverse accents and dialects and varying dictation styles
  • Ability to use designated reference materials including dictionaries, directories and the Internet
  • Ability to work under extreme pressure with time constraints and constant interruptions with minimal supervision
  • Ability to set priorities
  • Ability to pay attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness, concentrate at a high level and work independently and make good judgments
  • Cross cultural awareness.

The successful applicant will have grade 12 and post secondary certification in medical transcription (1 year program consisting of 8 months schooling and 6 weeks practical experience).  Previous work experience in the Health Care field is considered desirable for this position.
