First Nations Health Programs has established two scholarships to encourage students of Yukon First Nations ancestry who wish to pursue educational opportunities leading to health careers:
- The Dr. Frank Timmermans Scholarship-Application Form (PDF 54.6KB)
- For students of Yukon First Nations ancestry who are entering the field of western medicine and who intend to serve in the north.
- First Nations Health Scholarship-Application Form (PDF 138KB)
- For students of Yukon First Nations ancestry who are graduating from, or are accepted into, one of the following health careers and who intend to serve in the north:

- Nursing
- Community Health Nursing
- Outpost Nursing
- Midwifery
- Medicine
- Chiropractor
- Dentistry
- Dental Therapy
- Environmental Health
- Kinesiology
- Lab Technologist
- Physiotherapy
- Hospital Administration
- Pharmacology
- Radiology
- Nutrition
- Psychology
- Other as determined by scholarship committee
- Any accredited complementary/alternative/naturopathic courses
- Or graduates who wish to further their education i.e.: CAN-R, RN-BSc, BSc-MD
How to apply
- Complete the application form.
- Include an official transcript from your educational institution(s)
- Include a copy of a letter from your college or university stating that you are accepted for enrolment in the program for which you are requesting a scholarship.
- Include proof of Aboriginal ancestry.
- Letter of support from the First Nation you are Registered/Affiliated with (Letter of financial sponsorship from your First Nation is acceptable)
- Include two original letters of recommendation from teachers or employers.
- Forecasted budget for the school year
All documentation should be complete and enclosed with the scholarship application and sent to the First Nations Health Programs office in Whitehorse. The deadline for any given academic year is May 15th.
The Scholarship Committee will provide funding based on:
- Evidence of need
- Comments from letters and references provided
- Evidence of long term commitment to a health career in the Yukon
- Evidence of potential for success
- How your eventual goals will contribute to improving the health of Aboriginal people
