On April 1, 2010 the Yukon Hospital Corporation assumed full management responsibility of the Watson Lake Hospital, and will continue to operate this service in the existing facility until a new hospital facility is constructed. In the summer of 2010, construction will begin on the new hospital building.

The first step is to renovate and expand the existing foundation and half built shell, and integrate it into the new hospital design.

Serving Watson Lake and the southeast region of Yukon, health care will be more comprehensive by bringing community health services (i.e. community nursing, EMS, physician clinics and retail pharmacy) under the same roof as acute health care.
