Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the improvement and advancement of pharmacy informatics and technology at Yukon Hospital Corporation (YHC). This includes working collaboratively with the Meditech Expanse team to build, test and maintain the electronic health record (EHR) to ensure safe and effective medication use.  The Informatics Pharmacist will develop and maintain medication-related content standards in the EHR, provide clinical decision support by prioritizing patient safety and evidence-based practice, all while ensuring systems are compliant with pharmacy practice standards and regulatory guidelines.  The Informatics Pharmacist will also be responsible to provide timely communication and education for staff.  Participation in interdepartmental committees will be expected with a focus on technology and medication safety.

 

The incumbent will also provide pharmacy services when required for Yukon Hospitals including both clinical and drug distribution functions.  This includes working with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide direct patient care, supporting pharmacy and medication reconciliation technicians, and responding to any medication-related issues for YHC and its partners.

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

 

  • Excellent organizational and decision-making skills;
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills;
  • Current knowledge of pharmaceutical advances and changes with a focus on technology;
  • Exceptional computer skills including experience with a patient electronic health record
  • Experience with automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication;

 

  • Excellent research skills and ability to prepare reports and correspondence;
  • Self-directed and able to meet critical deadlines and prioritize concurrent demands;
  • Knowledge of established policies and procedures within the department and hospital-wide;
  • Knowledge of professional standards and guidelines;
  • Cross-cultural awareness and confidentiality;
  • Effective interpersonal skills that enables collegiality and team building.

 

The successful candidate is required to have a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from an accredited program of study, Yukon Pharmacy license (which requires a current registration in another province), a certificate of qualification from the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC). 3-5 years of hospital pharmacy practice (or similar) experience.

Completion of a pharmacy residency program, Member of Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacy (CSHP) are preferred and Experience with Meditech Expanse and Omnicell would be considered an asset.
