New Medical Unit TC1 Opens

Whitehorse General Hospital Enhances Capacity to Meet Patient Care Needs

Whitehorse General Hospital (WGH) is happy to announce the opening of the new Medical Unit TC1 on July 29, marking an important step in our ongoing efforts to enhance patient care and manage hospital capacity.

In collaboration with Health and Social Services, WGH has converted the TC1 unit of the Thomson Centre into acute care beds. This expansion is crucial in managing the overflow of patients and reducing disruptions to Surgical Services and the Emergency Department due to limited bed availability throughout the hospital.

This initiative is part of a larger effort to expand long-term care and acute care capacity across the Yukon, as previously outlined in a joint announcement by the Government of Yukon and Yukon Hospital Corporation.

Staffing for this initiative is integrated into the ongoing Health Human Resources (HHR) strategy. This comprehensive approach includes optimizing current staff allocation, enhancing recruitment efforts, and investing in professional development programs. These measures are designed to ensure that WGH has a resilient and skilled workforce ready to meet the increasing demands of the healthcare system.
