New Wheelchairs Bring Comfort to Patients at WGH

New Wheelchairs Bring Comfort to Patients at Whitehorse General Hospital

Yukon Hospitals recently received a significant boost in patient care and comfort thanks to a generous donation of 16 new wheelchairs from the Women's Auxiliary and the Lions Clubs of Whitehorse and Grey Mountain.

The Women's Auxiliary, known for their longstanding support of the hospital since 1901, funded seven new wheelchairs. Each of these wheelchairs is adorned with a plaque acknowledging the Women’s Auxiliary for their invaluable contribution.

The Lions Clubs of Whitehorse and Grey Mountain donated an additional nine wheelchairs, including three for Bariatric patients. Two wheelchairs from Grey Mountain are in memory of former long-time members, Fergie Laforge and Judy Miller.  Chairs from Whitehorse Lions Club will have a plaque commemorating lifetime member Bill Richardson who joined the Lions in 1958 and will read “Donated by Whitehorse Lions Club in memory of Member Bill Richardson and his service to the community”.

Members of the Lions Clubs, along with their families, gathered at Whitehorse General Hospital (WGH) to celebrate the arrival of the new chairs, marking a moment of unity and generosity. David Knight, Whitehorse Lions Club President explained "One of our members noted that there was a need for wheelchairs at the hospital and that the Whitehorse Lions Club be approached about making a donation. The Club immediately approved the request and contacted local business Alpine Health with the requirements. The Grey Mountain Lions Club heard about the need and were happy to collaborate with the purchase."

The new wheelchairs are already making a difference, enhancing the mobility and comfort of patients at WGH. The thoughtful contributions from both the Women’s Auxiliary and the Lions Clubs exemplify the spirit of community support and care that defines Yukon. Yukon Hospitals looks forward to continuing these partnerships and celebrating the positive changes they bring to the lives of patients and their families.
