We’re working to install a new X-ray machine at Whitehorse General Hospital, marking a significant upgrade to our outpatient imaging services. The new equipment replaces the previous system, which was installed in 2010, and comes with a host of advanced features designed to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient care.
“This new equipment has a number of Artificial Intelligence (AI) components and technological advancement, which allow for better quality images, lower radiation, and faster exams,” says Caitlyn Carey, Manager of Medical Imaging at Yukon Hospitals. “Technology has improved significantly since our last machine was installed, and these upgrades will help us provide even better care.”
“This will allow us to provide better support to our orthopedic surgeons for patient management,” explains Carey. “This is a huge step forward for us in terms of supporting orthopedic care.”
During this time, the old machinery will be removed, the space will be renovated, the new x-ray equipment will be installed, and staff training will be completed.
“There’s a bit of a learning curve, but there are also many similarities to the existing equipment, so the transition will be smooth,” Carey notes. “It’s always exciting to upgrade our technology, and it’s incredibly rewarding knowing that these improvements will lead to faster and better patient care.”
Yukon Hospitals is planning for the new machine to be fully functional and ready to accept walk-in patients again on March 3, 2025. Until then, urgent X-rays can be arranged by your healthcare provider. This does not affect MRI, CT, ultrasound or mammography.
This project is made possible through funding support from the Government of Yukon.
