Yukon Hospitals has released a new operational plan that sets a clear, unified direction through to 2027. It aims to connect the day-to-day work of hospital teams with the long-term goals of the territory’s health system.
The Operational Plan outlines five key priorities that will guide our work across Yukon Hospitals:
- Putting people and families at the centre of care
- Investing in and supporting our people
- Improving safety and quality
- Planning for the future
- Telling our story
Each priority is grounded in the current realities of our hospital system—such as rising demand, limited space, and the need for more inclusive, culturally safe care—and is supported by practical, people-centred actions already underway.
“This plan brings our goals and actions into clear focus, so everyone, from our frontline teams to our partners, can see how we’re working together to deliver safe, high-quality care across the territory,” says Tiffany Boyd, CEO of Yukon Hospital Corporation.
The plan recognizes the immense pressures our staff and providers are under. Resources are tight, patient needs are more complex, and teams are often stretched thin. Informed by what we’re hearing from staff, patients, and operational data, this plan prioritizes actions that support the people delivering care, while laying the groundwork for long-term system change.
From expanding inpatient capacity and launching the new Fireweed Mental Health Unit, to advancing recruitment and cultural safety initiatives, Yukon Hospitals is taking steps to manage immediate pressures while building for the future.
“Across Yukon Hospitals, staff are going above and beyond despite limited resources,” adds Boyd. “This plan is a way to support them and to strengthen our commitment to the patients and communities we serve.”
The plan also reinforces Yukon Hospitals’ role in broader system transformation through deeper partnerships with Indigenous communities, the Government of Yukon, and health system partners. By working together, we can build a stronger and culturally safe health system that not only improves care but strengthens trust and outcomes for all Yukoners.
