Checking In
You will need to register if you are:
- Visiting the emergency department
- Checking in for hospital admission requested by your family doctor
- Needing care (but do not require hospital admission) such as IV therapy or dressing changes
- Needing an x-ray
- Requiring a lab test such as blood work or ECG
The Admission Process
Whether you are having a routine X-ray or being admitted to hospital for several days, the registration or admission process is very important. While it may be true that all of your information is already in our system, or that you are being asked the same questions again, the various questions and forms that need to be filled out are for your safety. This also ensures your information is up-to-date.
Please bring the following with you:
- Yukon Health Care card
- Status card
- Government-issued identification like a driver’s license or permanent resident card
- A list of all medications (pills or other drugs) you take as well as the bottles or packages they came in. This includes prescriptions, vitamins, pain relievers like Tylenol or Advil, health supplements and herbal remedies.
You may also want to bring:
- Eye glasses or reading glasses
- Hearing devices
- Mobility devices you use at home (walker, cane, etc.)
- A hair brush, toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving supplies, and shampoo
- A bathrobe, pajamas and slippers (with rubber soles or non-skid dots)
- Clothes to wear when you go home
- Pre-paid calling card for long distance phone calls
- Phone charger for cellular device
All of Yukon's hospitals have a policy to keep the buildings fragrance-free. This means we ask all patients, visitors and staff not to wear or use scented products when they are in or coming to hospital.
Avoid bringing any valuable items. The hospital does not accept responsibility for the security any personal items.
You may be asked to:
- Provide the name and contact information for your doctor
- Provide the name and contact information for your emergency contact or next-of-kin
For your safety, all patients going to the emergency department will get an ID bracelet.
If you have allergies, you will also be given an allergy bracelet. Please keep this on at all times while you are at the hospital. If your bracelet is lost or damaged, please notify your nurse immediately.
Patient Meal Service
Patients can expect homemade, well-balanced and nutritious food, while staying at Dawson City Community Hospital. Our patient menu is rotated on a continuous basis. Prepared at Alexander McDonald Lodge - to serve fresh options that meet a wide variety of requirements, including special diets (vegetarian and diabetic, etc.).
Patients are served three meals daily along with individualized snacks.
- Breakfast – 8:45 am
- Lunch – 12 pm
- Dinner – 5 pm
- Evening snack – is available on request
Meals are modified based on patient food preferences and allergies/intolerances.

There is free public Wi-Fi available at Dawson City Community Hospital for patients and visitors.
