Having a baby is an exciting life event and we are privileged to be able to share this time with you and your family.
Our skilled and knowledgeable health care team is centered around your needs, supporting you and your family through your entire hospital stay. We provide care in our comfortable, private birthing rooms, which allow you and your family to be together. Please do not hesitate to contact us in advance to share your birth plans with us so we can be respectful of your needs.
If you need to have a c-section, the procedure will happen in the operating room. Your support person can be with you and your baby throughout the experience. You will return to your room in our Maternity Unit following the surgery.
Admission or Outpatient Visit
Remember to call your doctor or 811 if you have questions about whether you need to come to the hospital. We encourage you to call the Maternity Unit to let the nurse know you are coming. On arrival at the hospital, you will need to stop at the Registration Desk in the WGH Emergency Department in order to be registered.
If you are less than 20 weeks pregnant, you will be assessed in Emergency. If you are more than 20 weeks pregnant and your concern is related to your pregnancy, you will be assessed on Maternity. If you require urgent assistance, please tell the clerk at Admitting.
To protect patients and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, at this time patients coming to the Maternity Ward for outpatient assessments are not permitted to bring any visitors/partners.
