All patients need to check in when they first arrive at the hospital.
If you are going to the Emergency Department, having a baby, or have been sent by your family doctor to be admitted, you will check in at the Registration Desk. The desk is located in the WGH Emergency Department.
If your doctor has pre-scheduled your admission, please arrive at the specified time.
Please check in directly with the relevant department if you:
- Have an appointment at the pre-operative (pre-op) clinic
- Are arriving for day surgery
- Are having chemotherapy treatment
- Are going to the cast clinic
- Are going to Medical Imaging (X-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI or mammography)
- Have an appointment at the Visiting Specialist Clinic
Medical Imaging Appointments
If you have an appointment for an ultrasound, CT scan, MRI exam or mammography screening/exam, enter through the daytime entrance and go directly to the Medical Imaging reception desks located across from the Outpatient Medical Laboratory in the main atrium. Please be sure to arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. Outpatient general x-ray exams are conducted on a walk-in basis.
For MRI exams, go directly to MRI reception located at the west end of the main atrium (across from the Outpatient Medical Laboratory and Medical Imaging). Please be sure to arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.
If you have an appointment to see one of our many visiting specialists (such as the ophthalmologist, pediatrician, or orthopedic surgeon) or cardiac stress testing, you don’t need to stop at the Registration Desk. Enter through the daytime entrance, turn left just inside the doors. As you walk down the hallway, look for the registration sign. In all cases, please be sure to arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.
The Admission Process
Whether you are having a routine X-ray or being admitted to hospital for several days, the registration or admission process is very important. While it may be true that all of your information is already in our system, or that you are being asked the same questions again, the various questions and forms that need to be filled out are for your safety. This also ensures your information is up-to-date.
Please bring the following with you:
- Yukon Health Care card
- Status card
- Government-issued identification like a driver’s license or permanent resident card
- A list of all medications (pills or other drugs) you take as well as the bottles or packages they came in. This includes prescriptions, vitamins, pain relievers like Tylenol or Advil, health supplements and herbal remedies.
You may also want to bring:
- Eye glasses or reading glasses
- Hearing devices
- Mobility devices you use at home (walker, cane, etc.)
- A hair brush, toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving supplies, and shampoo
- A bathrobe, pajamas and slippers (with rubber soles or non-skid dots)
- Clothes to wear when you go home
- Pre-paid calling card for long distance phone calls
All Yukon's hospitals have a policy to keep the buildings fragrance-free. This means we ask all patients, visitors and staff not to wear or use scented products when they are in or coming to hospital.
Avoid bringing any valuable items. The hospital does not accept responsibility for the security any personal items.
You may be asked to:
- Provide the name and contact information for your doctor
- Provide the name and contact information for your emergency contact or next-of-kin
For your safety, all patients going to the emergency department will get an identification bracelet.
If you have allergies, you will also be given an allergy bracelet. Please keep this on at all times while you are at the hospital. If your bracelet is lost or damaged, please notify your nurse immediately.
