Reporting to the Director, Diagnostic & Therapeutic Services, the Manager, Visiting Specialist Clinic has the responsibility, authority and accountability for the clinical, financial and personnel management of the Visiting Specialist Clinic located at Whitehorse General Hospital that is connected and partnered closely with a number of other health services and providers inside and outside of the territory.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

 

  • Good knowledge of management methods, techniques and proven management and leadership skills, including ability to develop and manage financial and human resources.

  • Proven ability to effectively manage human resources, including team building and conflict resolution skills and techniques;

  • Knowledge of health care and hospital activities, procedures, methods, practices and legislation;

  • Knowledge of specialized medical care and current evidence-based best practices;

  • Demonstrated computer skills and full proficiency with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint);

  • Knowledge of medical terminology;

  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology;

  • Knowledge of medical transcription methods and practices;

  • Excellent research and analytical skills;

  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral;

  • Client-centred, solutions-based approach to problem solving;

  • Ability to organize, coach, mentor and evaluate staff in a variety of roles;

  • Ability to effectively manage constraints and competing priorities including setting priorities and demonstrating good judgement;

  • Ability to multitask and to be effective in planning, implementing and evaluating change;

  • Ability to maintain records and prepare comprehensive and concise reports and correspondence;

  • Ability to be effective in planning, implementing and evaluating change;

  • Self-motivated and willingness towards continued learning and quality improvement; and,

  • Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity.

     

    The successful candidate with have a minimum of three (3) years’ healthcare management experience, preferably in a multi-disciplinary, clinical environment, and a diploma or university degree in business administration, health administration or a clinical discipline (i.e., nursing, allied health profession, etc.) An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be considered.

     

    Education/Training/Certification Desired

     

  • Master’s degree in health administration management, specialized healthcare field; or equivalent experience related to the position

  • Clinical experience in specialized area of practice, and

  • Proficiency with Meditech
