Run for Mom 2015
Participants in the Run for Mom events get active and raise fund for breast health initiatives in Yukon. The largest event is in Whitehorse, as runners/walkers start in S.S. Klondike Park and complete 4.2 km loop around the Millennium Trail.
All the money raised throughout the territory stays in Yukon.
In early 2009, the new digital mammography unit was installed at the Whitehorse General Hospital. The machine requires less pressure and less radiation, and provides clearer images. The results are sent electronically to radiologists in Edmonton for quicker interpretation. The machine also features mood lighting! In a few short weeks, the unit provided an incredible number of mammograms. The cost of this new machine was close to $700,000 -- all raised through Run for Mom.
In addition, the event has funded the publication of a new handout on what to expect when women come for a mammogram, it has supported the Paddlers Abreast canoe team, and it has funded two local breast cancer survivors to attend the International Congress on Breast Cancer in 2008. With your support it will continue to support breast health for Yukoners.
