We want our hospital services to be accessible and appropriate, ensuring we connect patients with supports they need. There are a number of support services available in Watson Lake Community Hospital and our team will help you find them.
Spiritual care
Our team can contact local elders or members of the clergy at patient or family request.
Cultural Programs
Traditional foods, medicines and activities can be facilitated upon request.
First Nations Patient Support
First Nations Health Programs (FNHP) has staff ready to provide patient support to members of Yukon’s First Nations communities. A liaison worker is available via telephone through our call centre to assist you and your family before, during and after a hospital stay.
Support includes:
- Listening to concerns and discussing needs
- Helping patients with travel arrangements and discharge planning
- Providing information about hospital care and offering information to navigate the health system
- Advocating for patients and offering complaint resolution assistance
For support, please call the FNHP liaison call centre: 867-393-8780
Social Support/Counseling
Our staff can also connect patients with a number of social support resources available in the Watson Lake community, including social workers provided through Yukon government and counseling and family support through Many Rivers.
Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy
There are regular visits to the hospital by the WGH Therapies department, which provides inpatient and outpatient therapy services at WLCH. This service is booked by referral from a family physician. As part of the hospital discharge process, you may also be referred to the Watson Lake Home Care program.
Accessibility
WLCH is a wheelchair accessible facility and has pocket talkers to assist patients who are hearing impaired.
