Specialist Programs & Services

Specialist Clinic

The Specialist Clinic at Whitehorse General Hospital is home to a variety of visiting physicians, who provide consultation and/or surgical expertise in a number of medical specialties and serve as a resource for local physicians.

All patients require a referral from a family doctor. The visiting specialist will assess and prioritize the referrals as urgent, time sensitive, or routine based on the information provided. All urgent patients are seen first and it is difficult to provide an exact length of time patients can expect to remain on the wait list.

The need for specialty services is assessed by a committee comprised of Yukon Government, Yukon Hospital Corporation and local physicians.

Medical Rehabilitation Services (previously "Therapies")

At this time, hospital-based inpatient and outpatient Rehabilitation Services, including Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy, are only offered at Whitehorse General Hospital. Clients with WCB or MVA claims are generally not seen by our department, unless there is a specialized need that cannot be met within the private clinic setting (E.g. wound care for burns).

In order to access hospital outpatient services, patients must have a referral from a Physician or Nurse Practitioner using our department’s referral form:

If you are unfamiliar with our referral criteria, please review the following document prior to referring:
