Strategic Plan

Group of smiling Yukoners

Our territory is a vibrant and inspiring place to live in and care for. The Yukon’s diverse customs, cultures, experiences and communities shape who we are as an organization and healthcare team, making equity, partnership and reconciliation important to us.

Our Strategic Plan 2022-2027, values, directions and goals are designed to strengthen and further integrate our hospital system. We will work with our patients and all the communities we serve as partners in reaching our vision of A journey together. The best care every time.

Our five-year strategic plan is centered around four goals all designed to guide our day-to-day work in delivering safe and excellent hospital care.

Strategic Facilities Plan and Master Plan

In 2012, YHC with its system partners, undertook a comprehensive engagement and planning process to look at future needs and demands and what this may mean for development facility infrastructure on the Whitehorse General Hospital campus.

These planning documents include a summary of needs, population and service projections as well as how this development to the WGH campus could unfold over the next 20+ years. YHC actively uses this plan as map/guide for more detailed planning as phases of facility development are required. The following phases are ongoing or have been completed:

2015 – Canada’s first MRI service North of 60 opened

2018 – WGH’s new emergency department (and hospital data centre) opened

2025 – Mental Wellness Unit to open in June 2025

The next planned phase includes:

Detailed planning of expansion, including modernization of surgical services, inpatient bed capacity and support services facilities as outlined in the plan.

This is a continuation of work completed in 2018/19 on future development of WGH’s surgical services. A report from March 2019 is available for download below. This is a cumulative report – the first piece in a series of efforts that will lead to a modernized surgical services department. In the coming year 2025/26, the hospital will start to take the next steps in this planning process.
